Barça seeks greater engagement with fans by launching a crypto token


FC Barcelona is one of the most prominent and richest football clubs in the world with over 300 million fans worldwide. According to Alexandre Dreyfus, Chiliz and Socios CEO and founder, it is just a matter of time when Barças fans will start making more influence on the club's decisions.



The Barça Fan Tokens ($BAR), created in partnership with blockchain firm Chiliz, are designed and will be used for fans to vote in ballots on Chiliz' mobile app, Socios.com.


Chiliz has recently announced that the fan reward method is based on the point system. The most enthusiastic club supporters that are engaging in the club activity via its app can trade the received points to different commodities and/or club experiences. Token holders will be able to benefit from such features as chat, trading, games and more.


One club's token will cost €2 (US$2.18) and the intended number of tokens to go on sale in Q2 2020 is forty million. The Chiliz' $CHZ token will be available from the exchanges worldwide, so get their $BARs, the club's supporters will have to first buy their tokens.


The decision to build up the fans' engagement by entering the blockchain business was a strategic move. As Josep Pont, FC Barcelona board member and head of commercial area said, hopefully, this agreement will be a step forward towards establishing innovative marketing and partnership activations, and focusing on the digital world can really help to bring Barça and its fans even closer together.
