Nintendo Switch overtakes SNES sales
Nintendo's newest console, the Switch, has overtaken sales numbers worldwide of one of the company's classics - the SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System).
After a strong holiday period at the end of 2019 saw Nintendo ship over 10.8 million units, the total number of sales has reached 52.48 million. This exceeds the number of SNES consoles sold, which topped at 49.1 million units worldwide.
Most likely, this increase in sales has trended upwards in line with the launch of Pokémon Sword and Sheild, which itself has sold more than 16 million copies.
The Japan-based company now has three consoles which have registered over 50 million sales each, and this recent surge has pushed the Switch to become Nintendo’s third best-selling home console of all time behind the Wii and the NES.
