Revolut launches in the USA

Cryptocurrency friendly bank Revolut has finally opened its doors to customers living in the United States of America, after 5 years of operations primarily in Europe.

The London-based bank announced on Tuesday that U.S customers are now able to register an account and sign up for a payment card (Debit only at this time).

Deposits are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) up to $250,000.

Launched in 2015, Revolut has more than 10 million users worldwide, though the bulk of their user-base is located in the EU and UK. As well as offering traditional banking services like deposits, payments and withdrawals through the ATM, Revolut also offers features like currency exchange, insurance and equity trading.

Since adding support for Bitcoin (BTC) in 2017, Revolut has allowed users to purchase cryptocurrencies directly from the app. Although users can trade these digital currencies with other Revolut users, they are unable to take them outside of the app.

Revolut said U.S. customers will initially only have access to the bank's core features. Additional services, such as the crypto-buying service, will be added sometime in the near future, according to TechCrunch.
